  1. The tropicbird is a large bird that is found around warm tropical oceans.
  2. They nest in colonies built on the nooks and crannies of cliffs and islands.
  3. Tropicbirds are usually white in colour and have small feet legs and feet.
  4. There are 3 main types of tropicbirds: white-tailed, red-tailed and red-billed.
  5. The diet of Tropicbirds mainly consists of seafood with fish being their favourite.
  6. They hunt by plunge-diving where they catch food by plunging into the water’s surface.
  7. Tropicbirds have a mating ritual where male birds put up a stunning mid-air show.
  8. They are noisy birds and have a loud and shrill call.
  9. Females produce only one egg at a time which hatches in about 6 weeks.
  10. Chicks are looked after by both parents until they learn to fly.
  11. Chicks usually just float in the water to lose weight before learning to fly.
  12. Tropicbirds are not endangered and usually live for about 10 – 16 years.
  13. They don’t have many predators due to their large size and ability to fly.
